NEW YORK (77WABC) —Tunnel to Towers promised to never forget the sacrifices made on 9/11.

To date they’ve spent more than $250 million dollars to help U.S. Military, first responders, Gold Star and fallen first responder families with young children across the nation with mortgages. The foundation is named after FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller of Brooklyn’s Squad 1.

Siller ran through the Battery Tunnel to the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 with 60 pounds of gear strapped to his back after the North and South towers were hit by planes. He died while saving others.

Funds have also gone towards educating future generations about the terrorist attacks, which resulted in the death of nearly 3,000 people at the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan, the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
