NEW YORK (77WABC) — A community in Castle Hill came together Thursday evening to denounce increased violence in the Bronx.
It comes days after an off-duty NYPD officer — 48-year-old Muhammed Chowdhury — was robbed and assaulted. Protestors told CBS 2 that they are demanding safer streets, not only for citizens but law enforcement as well.
On Tuesday, Chowdhury went for a jog on Olmstead Avenue in the Bronx when he was attacked by three men near the Turnbull Avenue intersection. He was hit in the head and knocked unconscious.
Authorities say the thieves took off in a black Honda sedan with his cellphone, keys and wallet.
Cops said they’re trying to determine if an Inwood heist early last Friday was committed by the same violent crew, where a 32-year-old off-duty cop was beaten unconscious and robbed as well.
