The US and Mexico seek to stop the rise in migrants killed by jumping the wall
(77WABC) — A new report says more than 500,000 known immigrants called ‘gotaways’ have crossed the border into the U.S. but evaded capture since the start of Fiscal Year 2022 — or over 55,000 a month.
Multiple senior Department of Homeland Security sources confirmed the number to Fox News on Monday.
Despite admitting earlier this year over 389,000 gotaways were crossing the border monthly, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas insisted earlier this month that the border was secure. Looking at the two years combined, the department has tracked approximately 900,000 known “gotaways,” according to the report.
