VIDEO: Man Shot During Robbery of $8000 Chain in East Harlem

NEW YORK (77WABC) — The NYPD says a 55-year-old man was shot while being robbed of his $8000 chain in East Harlem on Monday.

Cops say the incident happened around 1:30 p.m. in front of 21 East 129 Street, where the a 55-year-old was unloading a work truck. The mugger approached him, brandishing a gun before grabbing the chain.

According to police, the thief tried to pull it off his neck, where a struggle ensued. The man tried to escape, at which time police say the thief shot him in the leg and took off with the chain — fleeing on foot west bound on 129 Street then driving away in a black BMW.

The 55-year-old was taken to NYC Health + Hospital/Harlem, where he was treated and released.

The individual is described as a 30-year-old man with a dark complexion, weighing about 180 pounds, approximately 5’9″ tall and with a thin build. He was last seen wearing gray sweat jacket, light blue jeans and white sneakers.
