NEW YORK (77 WABC) — A committee vote is set for today on U.S. Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson.
The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee meets at 10 a.m. The full senate could vote later today if the committee affirms Jackson.
Questions remain about the nominees lenient sentencing record. The New York Post has learned that Jackson, despite prosecutors objections, doled out a lenient sentence to a child rapist Leo Weekes for violating probation. While out on probation the rapist struck again.
During Jackson’s confirmation hearing the Biden administration gave the Judiciary Committee information on seven cases in which Jackson sentenced defendants to terms below what prosecutors and probation officers requested. The Weekes case, just revealed, was not among them.
U.S. Senator Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senator Lindsey Graham, both Republicans, are among those who’ve said they’ll vote against the nomination of Jackson.
