NEW YORK -(77WABC)- Nassau County is sending weapons to Ukraine in their fight against the Russian invasion. US officials have approved the transfer of 60 rifles donated from Long Island residents.
According to the New York Post, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman recently established a gun donation program to help Ukrainians defend themselves from Russian invaders.
He said he’s horrified by the killing of innocent Ukrainians, and acknowledges Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s appeal for weaponry.
Blakeman saying in a letter to President Biden that “It is our hope that by doing our part here in Nassau, we can stop this war and limit the possibility of American bloodshed…I believe we have to do everything we can to protect democracy and the Ukrainian people from Russian aggression.”
