NEW YORK (77WABC) — New York City Mayor Eric Adams Wednesday unveiled the city’s budget blueprint, totaling $98.5 billion dollars for fiscal 2023.

The budget includes a slight shrinkage of already massive city spending — by $200 million — that Adams claimed will result in more than $2 billion in savings. Among the $200 million in cuts includes $30 million from the NYPD budget, $21.4 million cut from the FDNY, and a 2.6% cut in the DOE budget.

“This successful management of our resources will allow us to invest in our most valuable resource — our people,” Adams said. “We will invest in all New Yorkers — prioritizing equity, safety, and justice. Most importantly, we will devote resources to upstream solutions, not only downstream demands. Our city will see and feel these changes immediately.”

There are also proposed cuts to parks, sanitation, and health and hospitals.

Despite the proposed cuts under the Mayor’s budget, transportation and corrections would see big increases at $63.4 million and $52.6 million respectively. Both Adams and the City Council are expected to agree on a finalized budget by June 5.

Adams said his plan would cut spending by $2.3 billion.
