JASON-RIVERA
NEW YORK, NEW YORK -(77 WABC)- The NYPD rookie police officer that shot the gunman who killed Officers Jason Rivera and Wilbert Mora, was promoted to detective Tuesday.
In a ceremony at NYPD Headquarters, Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell presented Sumit Sulan a new detective shield with the number 332—representing the three brother officers from the 32nd precinct. The hero cops responded to a domestic violence call at an apartment at West. 135th Street in January.
Sewell said—“He responded with his partners to what was supposed to be a routine call, a domestic dispute.”
Lashawn McNeil shot and killed Rivera and Mora, as Sulan ran to the hallway shooting McNeil.
