NEW YORK (77WABC) — A coalition of New York City business and civic leaders have signed onto an open letter, including leaders from real estate, finance, labor, medical, philanthropic and academic leaders.

“The mayor and district attorneys agreed that, among other things, safety and justice are not mutually exclusive, and must go hand in hand,” a statement from the Mayor’s office said. “They discussed ways that each office, the city, state, and federal partners could contribute to the fight against gun violence, as well as the ways they each could use their voice and platform to urge necessary changes to the system. They agreed to meet regularly.”

Adams Monday also met with the District Attorneys from the city’s five boroughs — including controversial Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg — over concerns about lenient prosecution policies.

Five NYPD officers have been shot since Adams took office Jan 1, two fatally. Today is the wake for fallen NYPD officer Wilbert mora at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

Part of Adams “Blueprint to End Gun Violence” includes an anti-gun unit and neighborhood safety teams in 30 crime ridden areas with body cameras.

Adams during his Monday press conference also spoke about his meeting this Thursday with President Joe Biden on strategies against gun violence, even calling himself ‘The Biden of Brooklyn’.

“We just like these blue-collar guys. You know, he is comfortable around everyday people,” Adams said. “And you could just tell that when you’re in his presence, he’s just, you know, he’s ordinary Joe. He knows the people, but the people know him.”

Adams has called on NY state lawmakers to allow judges “to take dangerousness into account” when setting bail or deciding to jail someone pending trial.
