NEW YORK (77WABC)- It’s no secret store robberies are way up in New York City.

Robbery has spiked by about 33 percent in the week ending on January 23rd.

According to the NYPD’s most recent data, overall crime has gone up by nearly 39 percent, with 7,230 incidents this year as compared to last year’s 5,211.

The Daily Mail reporting stores on the Upper East side are prime targets—with many stores hiring security—however that’s no help to the Manager at Rite aid at 80th and and second avenue—because the store will close Feb 15th.  Thieves are routinely caught on video walking out of the store with bags full of stolen goods.

A Rite Aid in Chelsea also closing in February.
