NEW YORK, NEW YORK – (77WABC)-Fire officials say one person was killed and eight others were hurt in a suspected gas explosion and fire in the Bronx.
The injured include five police officers ,who Mayor Adams says helped rescue others. The explosion happened Tuesday at around 11 a.m at 869 Fox street, at a home on a block of three-story homes in the Woodstock section.
A 77 year old woman killed in the explosion.
Video and photos of the scene showed that part of the home collapsed in the wake of the blast, with heavy smoke pouring from the home and adjoining properties.
Some people say they could detect an odor of gas before the explosion.
About 100 firefighters and EMS first responders were at the scene.
