Two NYPD Officers Shot in the Bronx by a “Career Criminal with a Gun”

Bronx, NY (77WABC)-Two NYPD officers were shot last night in the Bronx by a suspect police describe as a “career criminal” with a stolen gun out of Georgia.

During a press conference at St. Barnabus Hospital, NYPD Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said police from the 48th precinct responded to a report of a man with a gun.

As two officers,  a male and a female,  approached the man the female officer was shot twice in the upper right arm. The male officer was hit by gunfire in his right armpit area with the bullet traveling out of his left chest.

Shea praised the officers who he said were in good spirits and eager to return to the force.

During the press conference PBA President Pat Lynch said the public is doing it’s job, the officers are doing their job and now it’s time for politicians to do their jobs in respect to bail reform and illegal weapons.

The female officer is a one year veteran of the department and a member of the U.S. Air Force reserves.

Her male partner, is an 8-year veteran of the force.

They returned fire with the suspect being struck three times.

The officers and the suspect are hospitalized at St. Barnabas and all three are expected to survive. The suspect underwent surgery.

An investigation is ongoing.
