NYC Vax mandate loophole for teachers…

New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Dave Chokshi (dark suit), NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio (orange tie) and New York City Schools Chancellor Meisha Porter (black mask) cheer as Giret Madina, 14, reacts after receiving her first dose of the Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine at a pop-up vaccine site located at the Lehman High School Campus in the Bronx borough of New York City, NY, July 27, 2021. To encourage young people to get vaccinated against the COVID-19, New York City is opening 25 pop-up vaccination sites at schools participating in the Summer Rising programs; minors will need verbal consent from a parent at the time of the shot, and students aged 15 and under will need to accompanied by an adult to get the shot. New York, NY (77WABC)- Looks like someone found a loophole to the DOE vaccine mandate…

An arbitrator has ruled that officials need to provide accommodations or exceptions to any DOE staff member with medical conditions or religious beliefs that exclude them from getting the COVID-19 vaccine.

The decision came yesterday, with the start of school happening on Monday, September 13th. Teachers who resign due to refusing the vaccine won’t be immediately fired; they will be able to take leave without pay and will be entitled to health insurance through September 2022, per the decision.

“As a group, teachers have overwhelmingly supported the vaccine, but we have members with medical conditions or other reasons for declining vaccination,” United Federation of Teachers President Michael Mulgrew said after the ruling.

De Blasio previously announced Aug. 23 that all DOE staffers need to receive at least one shot of a COVID-19 vaccine by Sept. 27
