New York, NY (77WABC)- President Biden signed an executive order that mandates federal employees be fully vaccinated (without the option for testing), mandates companies with 100 employees or more to provide paid leave for workers to get vaccinated, provide loans for businesses impacted by the prolonged pandemic, among other things to reduce the Delta variant. Absent from the mandate are the 650,000 US Postal Workers. The exemption was first reported by the Washington Post, who also stated that the USPS is also ‘strongly encouraged to adhere to the guidelines.’
The White House in fact even issued a clarification saying that postal workers will have a choice between getting vaccinated and getting tested once a week, just like workers at large companies.
“USPS is not included in the executive order requiring vaccination of Federal employees. USPS has a separate statutory scheme and is traditionally independent of federal personnel actions like this,” a Biden administration official stated. Washington Post reporter Jacob Bogage took to his twitter to clarify:
JUST IN: White House official now says USPS workers ARE part of the federal vaccine mandate under OSHA jurisdiction, though technically not under the executive order.
