NEW YORK (77WABC) — A drunk driver lost control of his BMW and slammed into a 62-year-old man Thursday night, seriously hurting him as he was waiting for a bus on the Lower East Side.
Police say the victim was sitting inside an MTA bus shelter at Grand and Lewis Streets just before 11 p.m. when 26-year-old Cristian Bueno lost control of a 2017 white BMW and drove over the sidewalk. The car then crashed through the shelter before hitting a black fence and coming to a stop.
The injured man was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition, police said.
Bueno was taken into custody at the scene. Police said he was charged with vehicular assault and driving while intoxicated.
