New York, NY (77WABC)-A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of a suspect who left a woman in critical condition during an attempted mugging at the Canal Street subway station on July 17th.
The reward was announced by community activist Phil Wong along with NYC Republican Mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa. Wong is president of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance of Greater New York.
58-year-old Than Htwe of Brooklyn suffered head injuries when she fell down the subway stairs and hit her head at the Canal Street subway station, as she and her son fell down the stairs when a suspect grabbed her son’s bookbag. Htwe and her son were on their way to the mother’s doctor appointment at the time of the incident.
Police say the assailant grabbed the son’s bookbag, causing him to fall backward and reach for his mom. She plunged down the stairs with him and hit her head on the ground.
A Go Fund Me page has been established to help with the woman’s medical expenses.
Sliwa, founder of the Guardian Angels, says he and his volunteers have distributed and posted reward fliers, and increased their patrols in Chinatown and area subway stations.
