Three Swimmers Rescued from the Great South Bay

Bayport, NY (77WABC)-Marine Bureau Officers Rescued three people from the Great South Bay about a mile south of Bayport around 3:15 in the morning Sunday.

Police sat a woman still aboard a 22-foot Grady White Boat, 22-year-old Michelle Fusco of Patchogue, reported three passengers missing after they drifted from the vessel around 2 in the morning.

 Marine X-ray with Police Officers William Houst, John Mullins, and Steve Squires onboard searched the area and located the boat approximately one mile off shore in Bayport.

The, Marine Kilo, with Police Officers Shane Parker, Robert Mroczkowski and Michael Haggerty, searched the area with Aviation Section officers in a police helicopter. At approximately 3:15 a.m. the officers on Marine Kilo discovered 33-yearold Michael Fusco of Patchogue, 28-year-old Toni Arango of North Massapequa and 28-year-oldLeo Lopez-Garcia of Huntington Station approximately one mile west of the boat in the water. The three, who had gone swimming and drifted away from the boat, were in the water for approximately three hours. Just one of the swimmers, Only Lopez-Garcia, was wearing a floatation device.

 All three swimmers were brought to shore near Brown’s River Road in Sayville where  they were evaluated by Sayville Rescue.
