OCEAN CITY, N.J.——(77WABC)
An 18-year-old pilot made an emergency landing onto the Route 52 Causeway between Ocean City and Somers Point on Monday.
Around 12:40 p.m., police say Landon Lucas, who was flying the small banner plane for Paramount Air Service, reported engine trouble near Steel Pier in Atlantic City.
He released the banner into the ocean and tried to contact the Ocean City Municipal Airport when he noticed little traffic below on the causeway. He decided to make an emergency landing there.
Lucas landed the plane safely, and no one was injured.
Police and fire crews are investigating the scene and trying to tow the plane.
Inbound lanes to Ocean City are open, while outbound traffic is confined to a single lane.
A teenage pilot flying a banner plane over the Jersey Shore was able to safely land his plane on a bridge near Ocean City Monday afternoon after he experienced engine trouble, authorities say. https://t.co/OHkFy9wkZV
