New York (77WABC) – State officials are demanding answers after a decade-old cold case still has no suspects.
The Long Island Serial Killer, known as “LISK” is believed to be responsible for at least 10 murders between Dec. 2010 and Dec. 2011 — eight of them women— near Gilgo Beach, Long Island.
State Senator Phil Boyle — who represents the areas of Gilgo and Oak Beach— held a news conference Monday morning demanding more information about the case.
He added that the Suffolk Country Police Department’s history of infighting and criminal cases has gotten the murder cases bogged down. Former Suffolk Police Chief James Burke was under investigation by the FBI on suspicion he beat a handcuffed suspect and orchestrated a cover-up. He’s also been accused of intentionally keeping the FBI away from the murder cases.
“The people of Suffolk County…deserve to know if the police chief who has been accused of this actually didn’t do this,” Boyle said in reference to Burke. “The residents need to know that everything that could have been done was done.”
