A midnight curfew is in effect at the park. NYC officials, including police, held a public meeting with Washington Square Park residents on June 16th. Residents complained of alcohol and drug use at the park and late-night noise hampering their ability to sleep.
The arrests came on the day of NYC’s 51st annual Pride Parade, held virtually due to the viral pandemic, as members of the LGBTQ community took to the streets anyway in celebration.
