New York, NY (77WABC) Police have released photos of a suspect in a violent subway attack in which a 23-year-old Asian woman was beaten with a cane after stepping off the #1 train.
The unprovoked attack occurred on Wed. may 12th around 6:45 am. Police say the woman exited the northbound train at Broadway and West 116th St. when the suspect swung his walking cane at her. The woman was struck with the cane multiple times in her head and hip.
Police say the suspect then got onto the northbound “1” train disappearing into the subway system.
 Despite suffering, pain, and swelling as a result of the unprovoked attack police say the woman refused medical attention.
According to the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Dashboard, there have been 42 attacks against Asian Americans since the start of the year in NYC. The attacks are believed fueled by anger over the Covid19 viral pandemic believed to have originated in China.
 The suspect police are looking for is approximately 60-years-old, with a dark complexion and approximately 5’4″ tall. Police say he has a medium build, brown eyes, close-cut salt and pepper hair, a mustache, and a goatee. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored jacket, dark-colored sweatpants, white sneakers, and using a walking cane.
