Robbinsville, NJ (77WABC)-The driver and the passenger of a tractor-trailer are dead after their big rig slammed into a bridge abutment around 9:20 Thursday night on the New Jersey Turnpike. The fatal crash happened in the Northbound lanes of the NJ Turnpike, just North of Exit 7A in Mercer County.
NJ State police say the driver of the tractor-trailer and the passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released.
NJ State Police said the tractor-trailer hit a bridge abutment in the inner drive of the northbound lanes, spilling watermelons along the highway.
The crash investigation shut down the Northbound lanes of the Turnpike near mile marker 60.3.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
