(Queens, NY/77WABC)-Police say there has been a positive identification of a body found in a fetal position in the trunk of an abandoned vehicle belonging to her missing boyfriend. The NYC Medical Examiner has positively identified the woman as 26-year-old Destini Smothers of Troy, NY. She was reported missing in November of 2020 following a night of bowling in Woodside, Queens as part of her birthday celebration.
A tow truck operator, removing the abandoned vehicle, found Smothers in the trunk the morning of Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at approximately 9:51 in the morning in front of 150-08 Lefferts Boulevard, in the 106th Precinct in South Queens.
Her longtime boyfriend originally told police Smothers fled his vehicle the night of her disappearance after they argued.
The 2011 Toyota Camry was found abandoned without license plates.
Smothers is the mother of two young children reportedly in the care of her mother in the Bronx.
An investigation is ongoing.
