An Elevator Repairman Crushed To Death

(Bronx, NY/77WABC)-A 25-year-old worker for Champion Elevator Corp. was crushed to death Thursday, February 18, 2021, as he worked inside an elevator shaft at 133 E. Clarke Place, in the confines of the 44 Precinct. The elevator, which the Department of Buildings says was out of service, suddenly fell on the worker below.

Upon arrival, officers encountered the man unconscious and unresponsive. EMS also responded to the scene and removed the man to Bronx Care Health System where he was pronounced deceased. The Medical Examiner will determine the manner and cause of death.

A second mechanic was also injured.

Champion Elevator Corp. executive vice president Joseph Corrado said the company would cooperate with the investigation into the death. “Our condolences go to the family,” Corrado said

The identity of the deceased is pending family notification.
