NYPD Vehicle
(Bronx, NY/77WABC)-Authorities say a knife-wielding man was shot and killed after lunging at two NYPD officers with a large knife in the Bronx Thurs. night.
Police say a plainclothes sergeant and detective were stopped at a traffic light on 233rd Street and Barnes Avenue in the Wakefield section around 6:15 p.m. when the officers
heard a woman’s screams for help. NYPD Chief Terence Monahan says the officers immediately exited their vehicle and displayed their police badges.
Police say the man was shot and killed after lunging at police.
Monahan says additional knives were recovered from the suspect at a hospital where the man was pronounced dead.
The woman who told police she was allegedly threatened with murder by the suspect earlier in the day was not hurt.
An investigation is ongoing.
