(Washignton, DC) – Rep. Lauren Boebert says she is preparing to introduce a measure aimed at expelling fellow lawmaker Ilhan Omar from Congress, escalating tensions on Capitol Hill.
Boebert signaled her intent in a public statement, saying, “That one’s mine. Yes, I have dibs on the Ilhan Omar expulsion.” The remark comes as some Republicans continue to push disciplinary actions against members they accuse of misconduct or controversial rhetoric.
Efforts to remove a sitting member of Congress are rare and require a two-thirds vote in the House, making such moves difficult to pass without significant bipartisan support.
Omar, a prominent Democrat, has frequently been a target of Republican criticism but also maintains strong backing within her party. It remains unclear when or if Boebert will formally introduce the resolution, or how much support it may gain.
The development adds to ongoing partisan clashes in Washington as lawmakers continue to spar over conduct, policy, and political messaging.
