(Miami, FL) — Hurricane Erin remains a category four storm. The first hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic season has maximum sustained winds of near 130 miles per hour. It knocked out power Sunday to tens of thousands of people across Puerto Rico and is expected to move pass the southeastern Bahamas today. The National Hurricane Center says the storm is expected to remain a major hurricane, which is likely to bring life-threatening surf and rip currents to the East Coast during the week.

New Jersey forecasters are keeping a close eye on Hurricane Erin as the storm continues to churn in the Atlantic, especially after a drowning  at Seaside Heights beach last week. Lifeguards are on alert for swimmers in distress.  Seaside Heights Police Chief Thomas Boyd, who was once a lifeguard says it only takes about 30-seconds to go into the water and get sucked out where you’re going to be in trouble.
