News: Former FBI Director James Comey
(Washington, D.C.) — Former FBI Director James Comey says a photo he shared last week on Instagram, that spelled out “86-47” with shells on the sand, was “totally innocent.” He has faced a lot of backlash for the post that some say called for the assassination of President Trump. The number “86” is occasionally used as a slang term for getting rid of someone or something, while “47” was interpreted as a reference to Donald Trump’s status as the 47th president.
Comey says he pulled down the post after learning that some people were interpreting it as a call for violence against President Trump. The former FBI director, who was fired by President Trump in 2017 says he did receive a call from the Secret Service, and was interviewed by investigators last Friday, but does not believe he will face any criminal charges.
President Trump says the former FBI Director knew the implications of his post.
