(Staten Island, NY) – A special election took place Tuesday (April 29, 2025) on Staten Island to fill a council seat vacated by Republican Joe Borelli.  Republicans Frank Morano and Griffin Fossella and Democrat Cliff Hagen all threw their hats in the ring for the 51st Council District seat. Voters decided the race on a ranked-choice, non-partisan basis, meaning they rank the three candidates and any possible write-ins in order of preference with no candidate appearing on traditional party lines.

According to the New York City Board of Elections, Frank Morano came in with over 59 percent of the vote.
