(Toulouse, France) — Women may have better hearing than men. A new study published in the journal, Scientific Reports, looked at people in different countries around the world. It found that in general, women have more sensitive hearing than men by a measure of about two decibels.
Dr. Patricia Balaresque, who works at the Centre for Biodiversity and Environmental Research in France, had her scientists conduct hearing tests on 448 men and women from around the world. The study found that hearing sensitivity was primarily influenced by gender, followed by environment, and then age.
The Centre for Biodiversity and Environmental Research scientists also found that women performed better when it came to speech perception, which may indicate that their brains process information better than men.
