(Washington, DC) — A deleted article about Jackie Robinson’s military service is now back on the Defense Department’s website. The department had deleted the story earlier Wednesday as part of the Trump administration’s campaign against diversity, equity and inclusion.
Robinson broke baseball’s color barrier in 1947 and played for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Before that, served in the U.S. Army during World War Two. He reached the rank of second lieutenant in a tank battalion, but never served overseas.
Before the story on Robinson was restored, the URL re-directed to a link that added the letters “d-e-i” in front of the words “sports heroes.”
