(New York, NY) – People watched the waterway in awe as two dolphins were seen bobbing through the East River. It’s considered a rare sighting. The pair were first seen on Valentine’s Day near 96th Street according to videos posted across social media. Some experts believe it could possibly be a mother and her calf.
The two belong to the “common” dolphin species – which is different from the bottlenose dolphins typically spotted at beaches across the East Coast. However, despite the name, there have only been a handful of sightings in the city waterways over the past few years. The last time the aquatic mammals were spotted in the Big Apple was back in 2023.
