(Washington, DC) – Two members of Congress got into a verbal disagreement on Tuesday during a House hearing. And at one point, it appeared the discussion could leave the floor.

South Carolina Republican Nancy Mace and Democrat Jasmine Crockett of Texas were the two involved in that back and forth. The two congresswomen were participating in a hearing surrounding civil rights and transgender rights. It was during the hearing when Rep. Crockett began criticizing Mace’s past comments regarding transgender people. She previously objected to biological males (or individuals born male) using the ladies room at the US Capitol building.

Crockett challenged Mace, saying “I can see that somebody’s campaign coffers really are struggling right now,” adding that her GOP colleague focused on the “trans issue,” in her words, “so that people will feel threatened.” Mace responded by saying, “If you want to take it outside, we can do that.”  She later said she had no intention of causing harm to anyone, but rather noted she was pushing for a more private discussion.
