(Newark, NJ) — Students and staff at Hudson Catholic High in Jersey City are mourning one of their own today. The school’s football coach, 32-year-old Lamar McKnight was one of six people killed late Friday night in a car crash in Newark. McKnight’s mom, who also lost another son in the same accident, says it’s all too much for her to handle. She says she wants to know more about the accident. Hudson Catholic called off classes on Monday.
The Essex County Prosecutors Office says the car, with six inside veered off the Route 1 and 9 on-ramp in Newark late Friday, and then went airborne slamming into a support column for the Pulaski Skyway. The car instantly went up in flames. The Essex County Prosecutor was reportedly using dental records to confirm the victims’ identities. The Prosecutor’s office plans to hold a press conference today to reveal all the victim’s names and more details about the cause of the crash.
