(Orange County, NY) – Officials are urging any residents in the Village of Greenwood Lake to evacuate the area if possible. Voluntary evacuations will remain in effect through tomorrow as the Jennings Creek wildfire continues ravaging the area.
A section of the fire broke through containment lines following the windy conditions on Saturday night. No homes were directly threatened, however officials want to give firefighters more ease when working to put out the blaze. There are more than 150 homes in the area where the voluntary evacuation orders cover. The fire has burned more than 5,200 acres on the border of New York and New Jersey. Authorities say it is around 90% contained.
