(Atlanta, GA) – Bernie Marcus, who co-founded The Home Depot, has died at the age of 95. He and co-founder Arthur Blank developed the home improvement giant in 1978. Since then it has become an absolute titan of retail, and a true mega chain. Marcus is given credit by many for revitalizing Atlanta’s downtown entertainment district. He also helped build the Georgia Acquarium.
Home Depot, based in Georgia, made the announcement of Marcus’ passing on Tuesday. Since founding the chain, Marcus’ net worth grew to around $7.84 billion. A noted Trump donor, Marcus passing came as millions of Americans headed to the polls for Election Day.
Marcus passed away at his home in Boca Raton late Monday. Marcus supported the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta, and funded millions of dollars into stroke research.
