(New York, NY) — New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart says she and her wife have received death threats ahead of tonight’s WNBA finals game against Minnesota. Stewart says the threat came in the form of an email that was sent to her wife. They include comments that are homophobic. One of the threats reportedly said they hoped Stewart and her wife died.
Stewart’s wife is former pro basketball player Marta Xargay Casademont. She handed the email over to the NYPD and told police she has received others. The NBA has reportedly received other intimidating email from the same address.
The WNBA would not say if security has been ramped up in Minnesota for tonight’s game.
