(New York, NY) — If Mayor Adams is forced out or decides to resign, the next in line at City Hall is the Public Advocate. Jumaane Williams, a Democrat would become mayor. He has been the city’s Public Advocate since 2019. The 48-year-old Brooklynite is a self described activist. He started his career as a city councilman back in 2010.
Williams is a known critic of the NYPD, most recently backing a bill that forces police officers to fill out forms that details every single interaction they have with the public, even if it’s something as small posing for a picture with a tourist.
Williams got his masters from Brooklyn College, a moment he celebrated as someone who has Tourette’s and ADHD.
He was reelected public advocate back in 2021, scoring 75% of the vote.
