WABC Radio Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month 2024

Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated annually from September 15 to October 15, is a vibrant and significant observance in the United States that honors the rich cultural contributions and historical impact of Hispanic and Latino Americans. This month-long celebration begins on September 15, a date that marks the anniversaries of several Latin American countries, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and. Mexico and Chile also celebrate their independence days on September 16th and 18th, respectively.

On September 25, 2024 WABC Radio will devote a day of programming to Hispanic heritage featuring special guests, celebrities and policy makers all woven into the day the programming.

The origins of Hispanic Heritage Month trace back to 1968 when it was first established as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon B. Johnson. It was later expanded to a month-long celebration by President Ronald Reagan in 1988. This period is dedicated to recognizing the profound influence of Hispanic and Latino communities on the nation’s culture, history, and achievements.

Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, various events and activities take place across the country, including cultural festivals, educational programs, art exhibitions, and community gatherings. These events showcase the diverse traditions, languages, music, dance, and culinary arts that are integral to Hispanic and Latino heritage. It is also a time to reflect on the significant contributions of Hispanic and Latino individuals in various fields such as politics, science, arts, food and sports.
