(Washington D.C.) – House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer criticized the Secret Service for failing to use drone technology to prevent assassination attempts, following recent incidents involving former President Donald Trump. Comer, who led investigations into the agency’s failures, stated that the problem isn’t funding but leadership, calling for a cultural shift within the Secret Service.

In an interview with Just the News, Comer said, “They don’t have a money problem. They have a leadership problem.” He emphasized the agency’s lack of preparedness, particularly in its failure to deploy drones to monitor areas like Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump was shot in the ear during an assassination attempt on July 13.

Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin echoed Comer’s concerns, blaming bad management for the agency’s failures, including during Trump’s golf outing in Florida, where a suspected assassin was able to lie in wait before being apprehended.

Lawmakers from both parties are frustrated with the slow response and lack of transparency from the Secret Service. Senator Richard Blumenthal expressed anger at the Homeland Security Department’s resistance to providing necessary documents for investigations.

Comer and Johnson both questioned why drone technology, which is commonly used at large events, hasn’t been employed to enhance security at presidential sites, urging immediate improvements. The Secret Service has yet to address these concerns but promises a full review.
