(Middletown Township, NJ) — The U.S. Navy’s first coed submarine is in New Jersey and ready for duty. It’s the U.S.S. New Jersey that was refurbished earlier this year in Philadelphia. Over the weekend, the Navy commissioned the 887-foot long battleship in a ceremony at Naval Weapons Station Earle in Middletown Township. It’s the most decorated battleship in the Navy’s 248-year history and now it’s the first fully-integrated submarine built for both men and women sailors. It features separate sleeping and bathing areas and more doors.
