(New York, NY) – The MTA will be extending its crackdown on vehicles double parking and blocking bus lanes in New York City. The agency says come Monday, (September 15th) one-thousand additional buses on 20 new routes in the five boroughs will be targeting such violators with the use of automated cameras.
You will get a short reprieve, however, as warning notices will be sent out for 60 days before summonses kick in ranging from 50 to 250-dollars.
Currently the City uses the Automated Camera Enforcement (ACE) program on 623 buses across 14 routes to capture violations in real time. The cameras are located on the buses themselves and can read rear license plates of vehicles stopped in the bus lane. The program also issues violations for vehicles double parked or illegally parked at bus stops
