(Greenwich, CT) – Over Labor Day weekend, thousands of hotel workers, including front-desk staff and housekeepers, went on strike in several cities across the U.S. Major cities are being impacted for the holiday including Greenwich, Boston, San Francisco, and Seattle. The strike, initiated after failed contract negotiations, involves employees at major hotel chains like Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott, and Omni. Workers, represented by the union Unite Here, are demanding higher wages and the reversal of staffing and service cuts implemented during the pandemic.

Hotels affected by the strike have stated they will remain open, although services may be modified. Travelers are advised to check with their hotels regarding the strike’s impact and cancellation policies before their stay. The Unite Here website, FairHotel.org, provides updates on hotels experiencing labor disputes.

For those concerned about disruptions to an upcoming trip, it’s being recommended to book alternative accommodations. The strike could expand to other cities, with workers in places like Honolulu and Baltimore also prepared to walk out. While hotel operations are expected to continue, travelers might encounter changes in service levels, such as reduced housekeeping or modified dining options.
