(Atlanta, GA) — The CDC says six more people have died from listeria infections, including two in the Tri-State area, linked to contaminated Boar’s Head deli meat. That makes nine deaths since May and 57 people hospitalized. The six latest deaths were in New York, Florida, New Mexico and Tennessee plus two in South Carolina. There were earlier deaths in New Jersey, Illinois and Virginia. Boar’s Head expanded its deli meat recall in July to include seven-million more pounds of ready-to-eat meats. Listeria infections are especially dangerous for older people, pregnant women and anyone with a weakened immune system.
