(New York, NY) – Everyone around is bumping that, even the prospective Democratic nominee for President. Neon green has been all over pictures and videos of politicians all related to the latest online trend – a “brat summer”.
The phrase originates from UK pop sensation Charli XCX’s latest studio album titled “Brat”. The album features songs popular on TikTok, of course with their own dances to go along with the music.
As explained by the artist herself, the idea of being a “brat” is embracing yourself flaws and all. Connections between the Vice President and the pop culture trend began with online edits featuring clips of Harris layered over songs from the album. The singer even tweeted out her own endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris, posting “Kamala IS brat”.
People online, both politicians and citizens, are all taking part in the trend of a “brat summer”. Democratic Senator of Hawaii Mazie Hirono tweeted a picture of herself with VP Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff with a lime green filter. The #brat has over one million posts on TikTok.
The Harris campaign even leaned into the trend with her official campaign account posting a banner in the same font used on the Charli XCX album cover. Harris has a history of embracing online trends and fandom – back in 2020 she called her supporters the K-Hive as a nod to music legend Beyoncé.
