(New York, NY) — Mattel has created its first ever Barbie doll that has Type One Diabetes. The new doll wears a glucose monitor and insulin pump. Joyce is one of the designers at Mattel and says they went through every to get it right. The new doll wears a continuous glucose monitor on her arm and an insulin pump on her waist and carries a T1D supply bag. The doll is wearing a dress that has blue dots on it which signifies diabetes awareness. Mattel also partnered with Breakthrough T1D which is the leading Type One Diabetes research and advocacy organization. The company also worked with kids and community members when designing the new doll.
