(Butler, PA) – Former President Donald Trump was addressing a crowd of supporters at a campaign rally when shots rang out in what officials are calling an assassination attempt. According to claims from eyewitnesses, Trump’s security team was tipped off about the gunman on the roof a few moments before the shots were fired.
One witness told the BBC in an interview that they noticed a man crawling up on the roof. He said he and friends were trying to alert authorities for several moments, but the police did not respond.
The Butler County District Attorney, Richard Goldinger, believes that Secret Service was a bit “lackadaisical” and says local authorities are looking into how the shooter got access to that roof so close to the fairgrounds where Trump was speaking. House Speaker Mike Johnson has said that the house will conduct a full investigation into the shooting. One attendee was killed and two others were critically injured.
