(New York, NY) – The Democratic political machine continues to churn and seemingly is doing so in opposition to President Biden — in that the incumbent president aims to continue his campaign — even amid calls for him to bow out. Now, actor George Clooney has joined the growing chorus urging Biden to step aside. In an op-ed published in the New York Times, Clooney says he believes the Democrats need a new candidate.
The two-time Academy Award winning actor has been a longtime and outspoken Democratic activist. In his article he notes past support for Biden, including the fact he hosted a fundraiser just weeks prior. But Clooney says the Biden he encountered then is not the man he knew 10 years ago — or even in 2020.
This is all part of the fallout surrounding Biden’s dismal debate performance against former President Trump in late June. It’s prompted widespread concern as to whether Biden can continue on the job amid apparent mental decline — with even more people saying Biden should abandon his bid for re-election.
Still, Biden and the White House have remained steadfast in saying he won’t drop out. He suggested this week that Democrats who don’t want him to run should challenge him at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, in August.
