(Brooklyn, NY) — Two teenage sisters are dead after being pulled from the waters off Coney Island Beach Friday night. First responders raced to Stillwell Avenue and the Boardwalk at around 8 o’clock after getting word the two girls had gone missing in the ocean. After searching for more than an hour, the girls, ages 17 and 18, were found on the shoreline. They were taken to Coney Island Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
Witnesses say the two teen sisters decided to stay in the ocean when a storm came in, others on the beach had run to a nearby restroom for cover.
There were reports that a man was also missing in the water, but police say so far that is unfounded. All of this happened when lifeguards were off-duty.
