(Rockaway Park, NY) – Moments after lifeguards packed up for the day, reports of two missing teens came in at Jacob Riis Beach. The 16 and 17 year old were swimming on Friday night when they were swept away by the waves. The beach is notorious for its strong currents. FDNY reported to the scene with rescue divers, but they were called back to shore after the rip current became too dangerous for the first responders.
The search picked back up on Saturday morning with both air and marine units searching the waters.
